Introduction to GPS Car Trackers

GPS Car Trackers

GPS car trackers provide a reliable time and location for a car at all times, anywhere in the world. They are able to do this because they use a space-based global navigation satellite system. The best thing about GPS car trackers is that they are reliable even if there are weather disturbances in the area. The first GPS trackers were used by the military so that they could find out where their enemies were located with almost perfect accuracy. Now, GPS trackers are widely popular among consumers not only because a car can be located instantly but also because they can be used to find a location or a place when the directions are unknown.

How do GPS Car Trackers Work?

GPS is a very complex system because of the fact that a GPS receiver can calculate the exact location of where the signal is being emitted.  The signals are sent to a satellite in space that can convert them to different types of data.  The receiver can calculate the exact time and also the distance of the signal.  The signal sent to the satellite is then triangulated to compute the position of the tracker or the receiver and it is highly dependent on the algorithm that it uses.  GPS systems are highly mathematical and their accuracy can be a little unnerving at times.

Advantages of GPS Car Trackers

GPS car trackers are extremely popular.  One of the main reasons why they are so popular is because they are not really that expensive to install on a vehicle.  However, if you want to have the most sophisticated tracker installed in your car then you must be willing to pay a lot of money for it.  Another reason why they are popular is because of the fact that they are able to accurately and quickly record the car or vehicles location and most of the time it will be in real time which is very important especially if your car has been stolen.  Some GPS car trackers are even able to report accurate information during extreme weather – depending on the price paid some GPS networks rarely go down.

Restrictions of GPS Car Trackers

GPS car trackers are extremely high tech however they are not entirely error free.  GPS car trackers rely on algorithms and also on human accuracy and unsurprisingly there are some locations and environments that have been installed incorrectly.  Also, GPS signals can be blocked by tunnels, vehicle depots and underground car park structures- there are times that the signal may report inaccurate information because of interference in the area.  The antenna is an essential part of a GPS car tracker and when the antenna breaks down or when something is blocking it the antenna might be unable to report the location of the vehicle.  One of the major restrictions of a GPS car tracker is that you will usually need someone that actually knows how to install it in your vehicle because it takes some technical knowledge to do so.
